Honeymoon Destinations in June
Where to go on Honeymoon in June
By Jane Anderson, Editor of 101 Honeymoons
You’ve chosen the early summer month of June for your wedding, but where on earth is good for a honeymoon at that time of year?
Well, the good news is that June is one of the best months of the year for honeymooners. The weather in all those romantic European destinations is at its best with long sunny days and gentle breezes. The scorching heat of July and August has yet to arrive, which bring with it, of course, all those families on their summer holidays.
And because this isn’t yet technically high season, there’s a good chance you’ll get a very reasonable deal with travel companies desperate to get the holiday season off to a good start. European hotels and resorts will be all spruced up after the low season and ready and waiting to spoil you rotten. And don’t forget the same is true of hotels across the UK.
If you have your hearts set on long-haul, the Caribbean offers great deals in June which is officially low season, but well before hurricane season. Africa is also an inspired choice.
June Honeymoons in the Mediterranean
Mallorca is at it most fragrant this time of year. The orange blossom is still out and everything’s fresh and calm yet there’s a great buzz in the restaurants as the new season gets underway. Hire a cottage or villa with Vintage Travel for the ultimate in privacy and Catherine Zeta Jones-style luxury (she owns a villa on the island) and make sure you don’t miss out on the trendy bars and restaurants in Palma.
The Cote d’Azur in the South of France is stunning in June. You could stay at Le Negresco in Nice, or the Hotel Metropole in Monaco, or if you want to escape the crowds hide yourselves away at an elegant hotel like Le Mas de Pierre or Chateau Eza.
In the hills of Andalucia, DDG Retreat is a charming eco-friendly hideaway with five private casas – some with outdoor baths – inspired by the owners’ travels around the world. There is a lovely spa, infinity pool and hammam, plus you can rent bikes to explore local villages.
The Aegean and Lycian coasts of Turkey are warming up nicely but are still green and quiet. Honeymooners will be able to find a great deal with Exclusive Escapes such as a twin-centre honeymoon at the impossibly romantic Hotel Villa Mahal in Kalkan combined with the uniquely rural Bordubet near Datca.
Another great option in Turkey is the Mandarin Boutique Hotel, a romantic adults-only hideaway with just eight rooms set in unspoilt countryside near the resorts of Fethiye and Oludeniz. It’s very affordable and each double room has a kingsize four-poster bed and Jacuzzi for two.
Sardinia has fantastic visibility on the water in June if you like snorkelling or diving. A great tip is to honeymoon at Forte Village before the families arrive and indulge in the fabulous Thermae Spa. Other gems include the stylish Hotel Sporting which has its own private beach and the charming and friendly Hotel Relais Villa del Golfo which has just 65 rooms set on a beautiful bay.
June is a great time to be in Croatia. You’ll avoid the summer crowds, staying in glamorous hotels, taking boat trips to tiny picturesque islands and dining al fresco at charming pavement restaurants. Arrive by private water taxi at the glamorous Villa Vilina on the traffic free island of Lopud, or check into Hotel Podstine near trendy Hvar Town. Find more honeymoon ideas in Croatia and the latest special offers.
The Dalmatian coast of Croatia is beautiful, particularly if you avoid the summer crowds. Stay in Dubrovnik where you can explore the old walled town, take boat trips to deserted islands and dine al fresco at charming pavement restaurants.
Other Mediterranean honeymoon destinations that are perfect in June include the Greek island of Alonissos where you can rent a romantic cottage or villa and Corsica which has a great selection of hotels, villas and apartments.
Few places are as romantic as the tiny volcanic Greek island of Santorini where chic white-washed hotels are carved into the steep rock faces. My favourites include Grace Santorini. Other dreamy escapes include Naxos, and the tiny hidden gem of Onar on the isle of Andros.
In Italy, the Amalfi coast is a classic honeymoon destination combining old-school elegance with great service and marvellous restaurants. You can rent one of these wonderful apartments and villas. Or head south to unspoilt, historical Puglia where I recommend the new five-star Borgo Egnazia Hotel – it has sexy pool villas set amid olive groves, gourmet dining a top spa and golf course.
You could catch the ferry across the Bay of Naples to the magical island of Capri, for a stay at the glamorous Capri Palace Hotel & Spa.
June is also a great month to visit Venice before the summer crowds descend. Citalia has a great choice of hotels including the intimate five star deluxe Ca’ Sagrado, the beautiful low-key Hotel Londra Palace near the Bridge of Sighs and the legendary Danieli.
Or take a romantic tour of Italy by train. Hop on the Eurostar in London, spend a night in Switzerland then venture on to Venice, Florence and Rome. Find more European train ideas with prices from £499.
Tunisia is one of the best-value destinations in the Mediterranean – you can stay in gorgeous hotels such as The Residence Tunis, shop for bargains in the souks, dine at superb restaurants and visit classical sites such as Carthage.
Other Honeymoon Destinations in Europe
If cities, art museums and authentic restaurants are your thing, how about combining a couple of classic destinations, perhaps Seville, Cordoba and Granada in Andalucia or Rome, Florence and Siena in Italy.
Or enjoy the timeless Italian countryside of Tuscany where you can stay in magnificent hotels such as the beautifully restored Castello del Nero or Relais la Suvera, a Renaissance villa dating back to the 16th century.
Alternatively, head north for the midnight sun in Iceland. You can soak in natural hot tubs, see geysers and volcanoes, stay up all night at hip bars in one of the world’s most exciting and beautiful destinations.
If you would like to get married in a beautiful Mediterranean location, check out The Discovery Collection which offers tailor-make weddings in selected places in Italy, Turkey, Jordan and Malta. They will take care of all the arrangements and deal directly with local suppliers.
Or saddle up for an independent cycling tour of Italy. You can pedal gently through gorgeous rolling countryside visiting vineyards and eating picnics while your luggage is transported each day from one charming hotel to the next.

UK Honeymoon Destinations in June
Beach or countryside? Both are enticing, but if you fancy the latter, how about a stay at the charming Pentre Mawr Country House in Wales? If you prefer self-catering, try a seaside hideaway such as Hideaway in Fowey, Cornwall – find more properties for two.
Expect long, long days in Scotland where the welcome will be warm and the countryside stunning. I love this self-drive luxury honeymoon that kicks off at a five-star hotel in Edinburgh and includes stays at a lodge on Loch Ness and a private island off the coast of Argyll. You can also upgrade to a classic car – how about a Mini Cooper or Austin Healey?
For romance it’s hard to beat the Lake District and there are few spots more enticing than Gilpin Lake House set in the private grounds of a Relais & Châteaux hotel. It has six spacious suites, a lakeside spa and indoor swimming pool.
If you want something romantic, rustic and chic, I recommend Sheepskin which has a beautiful collection of cottages and honeymoon retreats in Wales and Devon. I particularly like Hilltop in a quiet Snowdonia valley, Tamar Cottages in Devon’s Tamar Valley and Cider House near Abergavenny.

Long Haul Beach Honeymoons in June
The Caribbean is perfect in June: prices are low, the weather is fine and there are no crowds. The best hotels for honeymooners include Anse Chastanet and Sandals Grande St Lucian on St Lucia, Jamaica Inn near Ocho Rios and the super-stylish Laluna on Grenada. In Barbados you could escape the crowds at The Atlantis on the East Coast.
This collection of the best small hotels and resorts in the Caribbean has some real hidden gems.
If you crave a “pure beach” experience, I recommend the Turks & Caicos Islands or tiny Anguilla. Both offer miles of endless blinding white sand and crystal clear seas. The former is better for island hopping and diving, the latter for dining around at stylish beachfront restaurants.
Cuba is a great option if you want to combine beach with culture – check out the 5-star Melia Cayo Coco or the Sol Cayo Largo, a 4-star all-inclusive on an unspoilt island, 40 minutes’ flight south of Cuba.
If you just want to get away from it all, I recommend the all-inclusive Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
If you prefer privacy to the attentions of hotel staff, you can get a great deal on a private villa for two on a great selection of islands including the delightful St Barths and Bequia in the Grenadines.
For an authentic slice of the West Indies, check out Essence of the Caribbean which has a lovely collection of B&Bs, guest houses and small hotels such Fond Doux Estate on a working cocoa plantation in St Lucia, A Stone’s Throw Away in the Bahamas and Petite Bacaye in Grenada.
Or you could set sail on a tall ship to explore the small ports of the Caribbean that are inaccessible to big cruise ships. Star Clippers combines the romance of sailing with luxury accommodation in wood-lined cabins, beach barbecues, deck-top sundowners and watersports organised by the crew. In Florida’s Palm Beach County you’ll find some glamorous luxury hotels set on miles of golden sandy beaches. I recommend The Four Seasons Resort and The Breakers – one of the most exclusive resorts in the United States.
On the other side of America, California combines awesome natural wonders with exciting iconic cities. You can join the surf set, take a wine tasting tour or discover the retro cool of vintage Hollywood. And those smart people at Black Tomato point out that you can even combine it with a beach in stunning Bora Bora.
Many destinations in Asia are wet in June but Koh Samui is an exception. This friendly island in the Gulf of Siam has a superb collection of romantic luxury hotels including Napasai, set on an isolated beach amid cashew, palm and coconut trees.
Bali is also a great choice in June. My recommendations include the Spa Village Resort Tembok Bali, the laid-back haven of Puri Ganesha and the great-value Gajah Mina Beach Resorton on a surf beach in the island’s south-west.
Adventure, Safari, Mountains
The best way to see America is on a road trip and Exsus has a wonderful modern reinvention of the classic US fly drive that is ideal for honeymooners. Sample itineraries include the California Honeymoon Road-trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles (11 nights). Or you could explore the best of America’s National Parks on the Yosemite, Sequoia and Joshua Tree option. Prices start at just £2,450 per person for a two-week trip including flights and rental of a convertible car.
June is a lovely time to take a two-centre honeymoon in Africa. Head to Kenya, where low season prices can still be found, yet the landscape is gloriously lush following the rains.
You could stay in a couple of the most fabulous camps in Botswana where June brings dry weather and cool nights. The best places to stay include Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp in the Okavango Delta and Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero in Chobe National Park. Rainbow Tours has some great honeymoon ideas.
It’s the start of the dry season in Zambia and Malawi where the plains will be green and lush – perfect for this exciting Lake and Bush honeymoon. Unwind at Pumulani, a luxury beach lodge on Lake Malawi, then go rhino tracking at Mkulumadzi Lodge in the Majete Wildlife Reserve before heading to Tena Tena, a luxury tented camp in Zambia.
It’s the dry season in Namibia and the best time of year for spotting game, including the endangered Black Rhino. Stay at intimate lodges and camps, such as the Wolwedans Dune Camp and Ongava Tented Camp, from where you can climb the world’s tallest sand dunes, take a hot air balloon ride over the Namib Desert and visit the white saltpans of Etosha. This Ultimate Namibia itinerary is perfect for honeymooners, or you could try a self-drive option.
If it’s beaches you want, head to Mozambique which makes a great alternative to the Seychelles and Mauritius in rainy season. This idyllic island of silky white beaches is perfect for boat trips on sailing dhows, barefoot luxury lodges and snorkelling in turquoise waters. Check out this island hopping honeymoon.
Madagascar combines exciting wildlife experiences and pristine white-sand beaches. You can expect lots of sunshine and 30C temperatures in June, and you can also do whale watching off the east coast. This 11-night honeymoon in Madagascar brings together Vakona Forest Lodge in the rainforest, and Anjajavy Hotel on a secluded beach.
If you crave total relaxation after the hectic wedding experience, there are few places more sublime than Ananda in the Himalayas, a beautiful spa retreat beside the Ganges River in India. Set on a Maharaja’s private estate, it provides world-class spa treatments, plus there are options to go trekking and white water rafting.
