1. The tiny Out Islands of the Bahamas are perfect for island-hopping. We particularly recommend Pineapple Fields on Eleuthera and Coral Sands Hotel on Harbour Island.
2. For idyllic beaches and five-star bells and whistles, Huvafen Fushi is a superb barefoot luxury island resort in the Maldives. Or opt for the fabulous new Constance Moofushi with an all-inclusive option.
3. Mauritius is delightful but not all the hotels have character. We love Paul et Virginie, a small charming barefoot resort set on a beautiful private beach next to the scenic village of Grande Gaube.
4. The Grenadines have some of the most beautiful beaches and waters of the Caribbean. Stay at Young Island for that Robinson Crusoe vibe.
5. Prince William and Kate Middleton chose the Seychelles – but the destination isn’t as pricey as you might think. There are many affordable hotels that have great character and charm. Try Coco de Mer or Black Parrot Suites on Praslin Island or L’Habitation on Cerf Island.
6. The Dominican Republic is a beautiful island but it has a reputation for pile-’em-high, sell-’em-cheap package holidays. Escape the crowds to the luxurious Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana.
7. Cast yourselves away in The Cook Islands where you’ll find real paradise. Check out the Royale Takitumu Villas on the beach in Rarotonga and don’t miss the breathtaking island of Aitutaki, one of the most beautiful spots on Earth.
8. St Lucia is one of the most scenic and charming islands in the Caribbean, and Anse Chastanet ranks amongst its finest hotels. It has some great honeymoon packages.
9. Thailand has dreamy beaches. The Pool Villas at Banyan Tree Phuket are gloriously opulent with glass bedrooms floating on lily ponds and huge private pools.
10. You don’t need to fly long-haul to find amazing beaches. Sardinia has some of the finest sands in the Med with great Italian food and luscious countryside. Corsica has wonderful beaches and villages untouched by mass tourism, while the Greek islands offer a wealth of options from rustic to glitzy.
