St Lucia

Jane's verdict

Anse Chastanet is a legendary hotel that’s beguiled honeymooners for years with its unique setting and green philosophy - before anyone had heard of ecotourism. Think Caribbean breezes rather than air-con; no TV, just the whisper of sweet nothings. Trade up to 'big sister', Jade Mountain, for private pools and no fourth wall.

Anse Chastanet says

Our 600-acre estate is home to two glorious beaches, lush hillside, staggering views of St Lucia’s famous Pitons and romantic rooms scattered discreetly amongst the colourful gardens.

There’s nothing flash about Anse Chastanet – it’s all about a peaceful and romantic escape surrounded by nature with nothing to disturb you other than the sounds of tropical birds.

The 49 rooms are located either at beach level or on the hillside; many have one completely open wall and each has been individually designed using locally-crafted St Lucian wood and furnishings.

Dine by the beach or on the hillside; using organic produce from our own farm, we offer fine Caribbean dining, vegetarian cuisine, grills and an East India-St Lucia fusion menu. We can also arrange a romantic candlelit dinner on the beach just for the two of you.

This is the perfect place to do absolutely nothing but we have an outstanding scuba-diving school on site plus great snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing and sunfish sailing. If you’re feeling energetic, take the boat round to Anse Mamin for jungle biking along 12 miles of trails.

The Kai Belte Spa offers a wonderful range of pampering therapies, including a massage course for couples.

We couldn’t leave out a mention of Anse Chastanet’s ‘big sister’, Jade Mountain. It’s on the other side of the bay and is, quite simply, stupendous. Oversized ‘sanctuaries’ with private infinity pools are perched right on the edge of the mountain with open views across to the Pitons. It’s nothing less than jaw-dropping.
