Italy is an obvious honeymoon choice that ticks all the romance boxes. Less obvious is the region of Le Marche with its gorgeous central stretch of coast and pretty medieval towns. And it’s right next door to Umbria for a great double helping of la dolce vita. Abandon the pre-wedding diet with all that incredible cuisine.

Combine beautiful Umbria with its lesser known neighbour, Le Marche, for a romantic Italian escape away from the crowds
Start your honeymoon at the Hotel Emilia, set in graceful gardens overlooking the Conero National Park. The Emilia offers stylish rooms with wonderful views of the coastline as well as an excellent restaurant specialising in seafood and local dishes. Explore nearby rocky coves, go sightseeing in Renaissance Urbino or simply relax by the large swimming pool.
After four nights in the Marche, head west into northern Umbria for a week of luxury self catering at Borgo Il Poeta. Your well equipped villa will come stocked with homemade jams and sauces as well as local olive oil and wine. With some excellent restaurants in nearby Gubbio plus the delicious home cooking of Borgo il Poeta’s housekeeper, you will be spoilt for choice on how best to sample Umbria’s delicious cuisine.
Explore the more well known sights of Umbria such as Perugia with its popular evening passegiata or wonderful hilltop Assisi as well as lesser known gems such as elegant Citta di Castello and pretty Spello.
That just leaves the rolling hills of southern Umbria unexplored, so we recommend spending your final three nights at the Locanda Palazzone, which successfully combines baronial minimalism with heavenly views towards Orvieto. The large swimming pool is surrounded by delphiniums, roses, chestnut trees and the estate’s vineyard. Visit nearby Orvieto or stay back at base and enjoy the superb food accompanied by the Locanda’s own wine.
