Cosy love shacks

Jane's verdict

Ethically aware couples looking for something different will love Under the Thatch’s choice of gorgeous places to stay in Wales including old railway carriages, yurts, cabins and a Romany caravan plus a good choice of romantic cottages too. As a former guest puts it, “Looking at the website is like opening a box of chocolates and not knowing which to pick.”

Under the Thatch says

In our book, true romance isn’t about boring tropical beaches and plastic hotels – love flourishes best when you have a unique and private bolthole to share.

We specialise in romantic self-catering in Wales and beyond and we’ve got some of Britain’s most quirky places to stay on our books.

Alongside traditional thatch cottages and remote farmhouses you’ll find some really quirky love nests – a selection of gypsy caravans in Wales, Ireland and Somerset, a converted train-carriage on the very edge of the sea, a shepherd’s hut in West Wales, and a small group of retro “love shack” forest cabins fitted out in the best of 1970s design.

Under the Thatch can offer complete privacy and seclusion, mountain-view hot-tubs, bathrooms bigger than most hotel rooms, and almost everywhere has an open fire or wood-burning stove. A week’s rental costs between £250 and £600 per couple.

Our website is like opening a box of delicious chocolates and not knowing which to choose first. Click here to see our range of properties.
