India and the Maldives

Jane's verdict:

Who would have thought that two big hitters in the honeymoon world, India and Maldives, would make such sense as a romantic two-centre experience? Imagine flying non-stop to Delhi for a private tour of the Golden Triangle or safari where you might spot a Bengal Tiger, before taking the four-hour flight to the Maldives, the ultimate barefoot paradise.

Barefoot Traveller says

If you want your honeymoon to be more just than lolling on a dreamy beach, we think you will love these two-centre honeymoons which combine cultural and wildlife experiences in India with pure beachfront R&R in the Maldives.

  • Beaches and culture
  • See the Taj Mahal
  • Wildlife experiences

Our most popular – and arguably best value – two-centre honeymoon is Magic of India and Maldives, which costs from under £1,800 per person for two weeks. Fly non-stop to Delhi from where your private guide will take you on a fabulous tour – just the two of you – with plenty of time to relax in between soaking up the amazing sites and sights. You will visit the Taj Mahal, of course, and also enjoy an elephant ride to the Amber Fort in Jaipur, see the fabled Udaipur temples and palaces and take a cruise on Lake Pichola.

From there, it’s a five-hour flight to the Maldives where the four-star Cinnamon Dhonveli awaits. This all-inclusive resort is a gem with a choice of restaurants, idyllic beaches and outstanding staff. We love it – and there’s an option to upgrade to beachfront or over-the-water accommodation if you wish.

If wildlife is more your thing, our India Adventure and Maldives trip is perfect. We’ll take you on jeep safaris in the Pench and Kanha National Parks, on an elephant safari in Bandhavgarh and you may glimpse the elusive Bengal Tiger in the wild as well as discovering more about these wonderful beasts at Project Tiger.

There are some cultural gems too – your private guide will take you to see Khajuraho’s sacred temples, including the Kamasutra Temple.

Your second week is spent in the Maldives at the low-key and barefoot Reethi Beach Resort on a B&B basis.

Again, this honeymoon represents fantastic value for money – from under £2,000 per person for two weeks including all flights.
