Wedding venue ideas

Our verdict:

Apart from your choice of spouse, your wedding venue is the biggest single decision you'll make about your special day! If you’ve dreamed of finding a fairytale Scottish castle or chic Portuguese townhouse, or simply being inspired by venues that had never even crossed your mind, I can’t think of a better recommendation than The Big Domain’s Big Day Collection.

Recommended company: The Big Domain

The Big Domain says

Fancy an intimate wedding reception on board a super-yacht in London, getting married in a baronial Scottish castle or celebrating your wedding with family and friends in a beachfront villa or alpine chalet?

We offer a fantastic choice of unique wedding venues throughout the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. They offer accommodation from 10 up to 72 guests, from intimate gatherings of close family and friends to party venues on a grand scale for 200 people or more.

Our Big Day collection includes the option to host your civil ceremony within the property or grounds – some even have a private chapel – and registered venues can also be found nearby.

Our Big Day Team is on hand to help find the perfect venue for you, and connect you with a local wedding planner for your big day along with equipment hire, DJ and catering contacts.

We offer more than 100 venues but the Big Day team has selected just a few here to give you an idea of the range of amazing properties we offer.

For your very own “Downton” wedding experience, the Lockerbie Estate in Scotland can accommodate up to 100 guests in the main house and 250 in their own marquee with 18 bedrooms too. It has a wedding licence, premises licence and bar licence.

Chateau on the River Eden is a fabulous option in Cumbria with a licence for civil ceremonies – party spaces include the Old Great Hall which even has a medieval tavern attached.

The elegant Torridge Country House in Devon and The Mansion in Wales are examples of more intimate venues.

A French chateau is about as romantic as it comes – check out Chateau d’Anjou and the aptly-named Chateau Romantic for example. The latter can host up to 80 guests overnight with a Banquet Hall with seating for up to 120 and the Terrace Hall for 60 guests.

With wonderful reception spaces for 30 up to 80 guests, Casa Olhao in Portugal is a stunning townhouse on the Algarve coast in Portugal – there’s even a rooftop pool and accommodation for 24.

The only decision left for you will be where to go on honeymoon!
